    Skin Issue Approach

    Wrestling Skin Issues

In an effort to address skin issues affecting our athletes, the Cherry West Coaching Staff has established both a pro-active and reactive approach. Our primary aim is to prevent skin related issues from arising. Additionally, our approach will be in compliance with NJSIAA regulations.

    Pro-active:

Our booster club and athletic department have purchased bucketless mops, disinfectant skin shield foam, a shoe bath, and the reconditioning of our older mat.

The mats will be cleaned before each practice and competition with a bleach solution.

Persons entering the wrestling room will be required to step onto a shoe sole bath with a disinfectant solution.

Wrestlers will be required to be wear newly washed clothing for each practice session. Wrestlers must not share clothing or equipment.

Wrestlers will apply disinfectant shield foam to exposed skin areas before each practice and competition.

Wrestlers must shower at the end of practice or competition …either at school or upon arrival at home.

Families are asked to wash practice clothes daily with detergent in warm (160 degree) water.

    Reactive:

The wrestler will alert the coaching staff to any skin concerns …cuts, rashes, pimples, boils, etc.

A wrestler with any suspicious condition will be sent to our trainer for further evaluation. If our trainer suspects the possibility of a communicable disease, a parent will be notified and the wrestler will be given an NJSIAA release form (see attached) that will be required to be completed by a family physician. Please know that only this completed form will permit the wrestler to participate……a physician’s note is not acceptable.

Parents of a wrestler requiring medical attention must act as advocates by stressing
the need for immediate action and treatment so that the athlete can quickly return to competition in a non-contagious condition.
